Consistency Lifts United Out of Drop Zone

Five wins and a draw from nine league matches in 2008 has lifted to Ayr to a comfortable position in the league and out of the drop zone.

Their latest 1-0 win away to bottom club Berwick rangers followed good wins in 2008 including 4-0 againsy berwick at Somerset Park on 2nd January, consecutive 3-1 wins against Alloa and Queen's Park and a superb 2-1 win away to high flying Raith Rovers on 16th february.

Manager Brian Reid had promised to sort attitude problems amongst some players after a dismal 5-1 defeat to Brechin before Christmas and some players left the club making way for younger talent to come through.

It co-incided with Ryan Stevenston returning from injury to partner Alex Williams, who is currently second top scorer in the division.

United are still not clear of relegation threat as Cowdenbeath have two games in hand, but yesterday's 1-0 win over Berwick and defeat for the Blue Brazil means that Ayr are now 7 points clear of the Fifers.

Conversely, a good winning run could see them claw back a substantial defeicit and challenge for a play off place.

Its still all to play for as the league campaign goes into its last few weeks.
