Ayr V Brechin at Somerset Park - Match Preview

Ayr are sweating on the fitness of on-loan Hamilton striker Darrian MacKinnon ahead of the visit of Brechin.

MacKinnon picked up a thigh strain in training and will continue to be assessed.

However, Darren Brownlie (hamstring) is a definite absentee from an Honest Men squad that was already without the injured Martyn Campbell, Anthony Marenghi and Michael McGowan.

After winning for the first time last weekend at East Fife, manager Mark Roberts is determined his side now start climbing the table.

He said: "We were due a win and thankfully it came. We now have two home games and winning them both - starting with a tricky game against Brechin - would change the mind-set about our season.

"But it will not be easy as they have always been difficult opponents."

Loan signings Ross Fisher and Kurtis Byrne will be in the Brechin squad.

Boss Jim Weir has added Kilmarnock's Fisher and Ross County's Byrne to his ranks and he is also trying to do a deal to bring in Dunfermline youngster Allan Smith in time for the game.

Alan Trouten will return after a family bereavement and he will face his former club.

Gerry McLauchlan, Ryan Stewart, Craig Molloy and Derek Carcary all remain out with knocks.

"Our squad is beginning to look a bit healthier numbers-wise, " said Weir. "Being short of bodies was hurting us and hopefully an injection of freshness will help us be a lot better defensively than we have been."
