First Division Ayr booked their place in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup thanks to a Ryan Stevenson goal.

192 people saw the Highland League side stick doggedly to their task throughout the match and they had an early chance through Gary McGowan.

But Ayr took a grip on the game and 'Vale 'keeper James Blanchard brought of a serious of superb saves to deny them.

However, Blanchard was finally beaten by Stevenson, the midfielder meeting a Alastair Woodburn cross to find the corner of the net.

An incredible 8 players were booked - four from each side.

This was Ayr United's third ever trip to Banff winning 3-0 in a 1949 friendly and recording a superb 6-0 win again in the Scottish Cup 3rd round on 5th January 2002.  'Vale have yet to score against the Honestman.

This is only Ayr's second victory of the season in a competitive match, their own previous victory being a 1-0 against Raith Rovers in a league match in September.

United now look forward to the Cup draw.
