Smith taps in for late leveller

Stenhousemuir's Darren Smith struck late to earn his side a 1-1 draw with Ayr.

The visitors had the lion's share of the possession in the opening stages and almost took the lead in the 14th minute of the game but Mark Roberts' 30-yard piledriver was tipped round the post by Stenhousemuir goalkeeper Robbie Thomson.

Ayr continued to dominate in the early stages of the second half and eventually took the lead in the 68th minute when Michael Moffat found the top left corner of Thomson's goal from 10 yards out after good work from Darian Mackinnon.

Stenhousemuir then began to hit back at their opponents and the game was thrown wide open.

Smith scored a dramatic equaliser in the 84th minute when Ayr goalkeeper Alistair Brown spilled John Gemmell's shot, leaving Smith free to tap in at the far post.
