Solid Start For Ayr As New Matchday Programme is Launched

Ayr United and Partick Thistle served up an entertaining draw as Somerset Park welcomed back First Division football after a five-year absence.

Former Jags man Mark Roberts shot Ayr ahead on five minutes with an audacious shot from 50 yards after a miscued clearance from goalkeeper Jonny Tuffey.

The Thistle keeper made amends when he tipped over a shot from Ryan Stevenson.

Simon Donnelly levelled on 21 minutes when he drilled home a clever cut-back from Mark Corcoran.

The early scores were the only ones with the match finishing 1-1 after 90 minutes, although Ayr did ride their luck late on to keep the score that way.

For the second season running Ayr issued the first of a season of special programmes. The Ayr United official website describes this seasons programme thus;

'As befits a team going into the first Division and celebrating it's centenary, Ayr United has revamped the squad and now revamped the programme for 2009/10.
