_46811867_active_nation_cup_22618th Janaury 2010 was a landmark for Ayr.

It was their first match of 2010, their first match for five weeks and they gained their place in the Scottish Cup 5th round.

After six postponed matches United at last managed a game after the 'big freeze'.  At the third time of asking they lined up against Brechin City in their delayed 4th round Scottish Cup match.

The Somerset Park faithful had only 3 minutes to wait for the first goal as Mark Roberts struck home early on.  The Ayr veteren was first to latch onto a Junior Mendes cut back.  City nearly equalised almost immediately but the ball boumnced of the Ayr bar.,

Ayr nevertheless continued to dominate the match and Mendes also saw an effort cannon back off the bar.  The visiting goalkeeper, David Scott had a very bust sacond half  as Mendes, Ryan Campbell and man of the match Ryan Stevenson went close.

United had to be content with that solitory goal to dump the second division club out of the Cup.

Ayr now await the much postponed match between Livingston and Dundee.
