Stranraer grabbed their first win of the season with a comfortable victory against derby rivals Ayr United.

Two first-half strikes from David Hamilton and Michael Moore were enough for the Blues as Ayr have struggled to get going on the back of a recent heavy fixture schedule.

Stranraer raced in front and never looked back when Hamilton was played in by Alex Burns and slotted home from 12 yards.

It was soon 2-0 when skipper Moore turned at the edge of the box to fire into the roof of the net.

They could have added to their lead when Alex Burns unleashed a fine effort from 25 yards, but his shot crashed back off the bar.

Ayr threw on substitutes Gareth Wardlaw and Paul Walker before half-time to try and turn the tide, but it had little effect.

Their best chance to get back in the game fell to Raymond Logan, but he headed wide from just two yards.

Stranraer almost added to their margin of victory when Hamilton broke clear, but his shot was well saved by Ayr goalkeeper Mark McGeown.
