Gordon grabs the winner

Ben Gordon's 45th-minute strike was enough to earn Alloa back-to-back victories with a 1-0 win against Ayr at Recreation Park.

Jason Marr missed a great chance to give the home side the lead after nine minutes, heading Ryan McCord's free-kick wide from six yards out.

Wasps' midfielder Graeme Holmes was then unlucky not to break the deadlock in the 27th minute, when he struck the crossbar with a thunderous 25-yard strike.

Paul Hartley's men were finally ahead on the stroke of half-time as Gordon tucked away McCord's pinpoint cross to record his second goal in as many games.

Eight minutes from time, Honest Men substitute Ross Robertson thought he had equalised for the visitors when he let fly with a 25-yard free-kick, but Scott Bain was up to the test with a fine save.

Mark Docherty went close to securing the hosts' victory when he struck from distance after 86 minutes, but Alistair Brown denied the former Brechin man from extending the winning margin.
