Defeat By Local Rivals

While the Ayr United first team stars were making their merry way to a league cup final encounter Rangers, the Ayr United ladies were treading a similar path.  On Sunday 24th March they faced local rivals Kilmarnock in the Scottish League Cup Final at Hamilton's Ballast Stadium.  United had several first team regulars Julie Fleeting, Lorna Smith and Lynsey Hart missing for the match.  The worst performance for 6 years (according to Coach Hugh Flynn) ensured that the Ladies run ended similarly to the Hampden heroes.  A 2-0 defeat resulted after Linda Brown scored Killies first – a 60th minute penalty.  United keeper Gemma Fay had no chance in the 80th minute when Killie's Pauline Hamill chipped a superb effort past her to score the decisive second.

The Ayr team was:-

Fay, McNicol, McIlwraith, James, Cook, Ward, Burns, Millard, Gilmour, Brolly, Penglass, Suns, Rugg, Collins, Cullin, Agnew and Hogg.

Nevertheless, again like their male counterparts, Ayr are having a good Scottish Cup run and face Inverness in the third round.
