United Fight On With Two To Go

With two matches left of the season Ayr are hoping for a Raith Rovers mistake whilst ensuring that they also win.

A ten match unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt against a weakened team at Brechin City but United bounced back with a good 2-0 win against East Fife. Manager Brain Reid has pledged that the club will battle until the end to avoid the play off's and gain automatic promotion.

Next up is Alloa Athletic at Ayr on 2nd May 2009 but Ayr still rue the missed chances that cost so dearly at Brechin.

Reid was still fuming at bad referring decisions which deprived Ayr of a penalty but he didnt blame that for their defeat.

'Sometimes the ref gives it, sometimes he doesnt but we felt it was hand ball' he said. However he went on to say 'Brechin were stubborn and awkward to play against but we still created three or four good chances that normally we put away.

We've scored 65 goals this season and usually would have scored............... we'll keep fighting to the end'.

There are still six points to play for and plenty of time for Raith to slip up. For the fans, lets hope that happens tghis Saturday and take some of the presuure away from that last match trip to Peterhead.
