No Tears for Livi

Livingston football club caused chaos last night by logding an appeal against the SFL's decision to relegate them to the third division because they broke the leagues insolvency rules.

The saga has been going for weeks now with previous owner excercising maximum brinkmanship by refusing to sell the club until after the club employed an administrator. New backers arrived to bail the club out but verged on blackmail by only agreeing to rescue the club if Livi remained in the first division and avoided a points deduction.

The league gave them a week to come up with a viable packcage and then promptly relegated the club to division 3.

This has infuriated the potential rescuers who thoght that thye had a deal to keep the club in the higher league.

This is the second time in their fourteen year history that Livi have gone into administration, the first time was when they went into debt when they used high cost players to pip Ayr for a place in the Scottish Premier League and then promptly went into administration. Although nobody wishes to see a club go under Ayr United fans nevertheless have little sympathy with the Lothian clubs current plight.

If Livi's appeal against demotion is not successful they may ultimately folow Gretna out of the league.
