There followed a long trip down south for the second leg of the Anglo Scottish Cup tie.
A 0-2 scoreline was bad enough against a Mansfield side (whose programme for the tie showed them sitting fifth from bottom of the third division with just 5 points from 8 games) but A miserable night for Ayr was completed by the sending off of Alex Ingram.
