It was also a year of dashed hopes on the stadium front, the credit crunch, lowering house prices putting paid to a deal with a house builder. Again South Ayrshire Council's tardiness of action meant that a deal which should have been signed, sealed and delivered before talk of an economic downturn came up for finalising right in the middle of a housing price crisis.
The New Year promises much - a huge Scottish Cup 4th Rnd tie against local rivals Kilmarnock is an early taster.
More importantly 2009 is the year where Ayr could at last gain that all important promotion back to Division 1 preferably automatically, but at leasty through the play off system which Ayr United have never, as yet, been involved in.
It is also hoped that the Ayr United Chairman can get that Stadium deal back on track.
Most importantly, for those who can, get yourselves down to Somerset Park to watch Ayr at as many homes games as possible.
